Deir el-Medina

A collection of 490 photographs providing a comprehensive overview of the “workers’ village” of Deir el-Medina, which was home to the workers who constructed and decorated the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Not surprisingly, they put their professional skills to good use in their own tombs, which are among the most beautifully decorated of any private tombs in Egypt.

The adjacent Ptolemaic temple is small, but also beautifully decorated, with a triple shrine depicting several different kings of the Ptolemaic period making offerings to the gods, and an unusual “judgement scene”.
